Dr. Miriam Adeney

Dr. Adeney is associate professor of missions and cross-cultural communications at Seattle Pacific University and research professor in the same area at Regent College in Vancouver, Canada. Her graduate degrees are from Syracuse University (M.A.) and Washington State University (Ph.D.). She is a published scholar in her field and writes frequently for major Christian journals. Highly regarded as a missiologist, she travels the world and maintains personal links with non-Western Christian leaders as well as Western missionaries around the globe. She is the director of an important project focusing on the development of indigenous Christian literature outside of North America and Europe. She is a member of the board of Christianity Today.


Dr. Kathy Bence

 

 

Dr. Bence is a minister, teacher and spiritual director. Kathy is the Director of the KOINOS Christian Spirituality program. She leads retreats and also teaches at Fuller Seminary Northwest. She is a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Azusa Pacific University (D.Min.in Spiritual Formation). Her last book is entitled Under Her Wings: Spiritual Guidance from Women Saints


Dr. Phil Bence

Dr. Bence directs the Pacific Association for Theological Studies and its KOINOS programs. He also teaches at  Fuller Theological Seminary's Seattle extension and Seattle Pacific University.  He has graduate degrees from Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and the University of Saint Andrews, Scotland (Ph.D.). He has written a commentary on the Acts of the Apostles and a number of scholarly and popular essays.


Dr. Bryan Burton

Dr. Burton is the senior minister of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Normandy Park and serves as an adjunct professor at both Drew University and Fuller Theological Seminary. His graduate degrees are from Bethel Theological Seminary (MA) and Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland (PhD). Committed to bridging the gulf between theology and the pew (and sometimes even the pulpit!), he has been an active member of the People's Theology Group, associated with the annual meetings of the American Academy of Religion.


Dr. Blaine Charette

Dr. Charette is Professor of New Testament at Northwest College in Kirkland, WA, where he also serves as the Chair of the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in New Testament from the University of Sheffield (England). Dr. Charette is the author of two books on Matthew's Gospel as well as several scholarly articles on New Testament interpretation. Blaine is in his 25th year of marriage to his lovely wife Judy and is the father of two sons, Blaeden and Eliot.


Dr. Charles Christian

Dr. Christian is senior pastor of North Seattle Church of the Nazarene in Seattle.  He holds degrees from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas (B.B.A.); Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth (M.Div.); and the University of South Africa (Ph.D., Systematic Theology). Dr. Christian is a frequent speaker at retreats, college chapels, and conferences.  His adjunct teaching assignments have included Dallas Christian College, Warner Pacific College, Northwest Nazarene University, George Fox University, and Seattle Pacific University.  


Dr. Bob Ekblad

 

Dr. Ekblad is executive director of Tierra Nueva and The People's Seminary in Burlington, WA.  Tierra Nueva is an ecumenical ministry  that seeks to share the good news of God's love and liberation in Jesus Christ to people on the margins of the church; The People's Seminary is an outgrowth of that ministry.  Bob and his wife Gracie founded Tierra Nueva among the peasants in Hondurus in the 1980s and brought it back with them to Skagit Valley where they now work with immigrants, inmates and permanent Hispanic residents.  Bob also works as a chaplain with Skagit County Jail Ministry and teaches as a sessional lecturer at Regent College.  He holds degrees from Seattle Pacific University (BA) and Institut Protestant de Théologie (Diplôme d'Etudes, ThM, ThD).

Dr. Al Erisman

 

Dr.Erisman worked for The Boeing Company for thirty-two years, the last twelve as Director of Mathematics and Computing Technology. In this role, he managed a staff of 250 scientists, mathematicians and engineers with the goal of delivering value to The Boeing Company through technology deployment. He was named one of the inaugural Boeing Senior Technical Fellows in 1990. Erisman earned the Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and is the co-author of two books and many articles in scientific and technical journals and books. He is Director of the Institute for Business, Technology and Ethics, Chair of the Information Technology Review Panel for the National Institute for Standards and Technology) sponsored by the National Research Council, and a member of the board of the Washington Technology Center.


Dr. Marty Folsom

 

Dr. Folsom is a family counselor and adjunct professor of biblical studies and theology at Seattle Pacific University. He has graduate degrees from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (MA), Fuller Theological Seminary (MA), and The University of Otago, New Zealand (PhD).


Laurel Gasque

 

Laurel Gasque heads up Faculty and Graduate Student ministry for Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada. Her graduate degree is from Eastern College of Pennsylvania (MEd). She has also done graduate studies in art history at Edinburgh University. A lover of languages and the arts, she has traveled to more than 70 countries, where she has been a close observer of the diversity of human cultures and particularly of the interface between the Christian gospel and the arts. She is a consulting editor of Christian History, a contributing editor of Radix, and on the board of Christians in the Visual Arts. She has taught part-time at Regent College, New College Berkeley, Eastern College, and Tyndale Seminary, where she currently serves as adjunct professor of theology and culture.


Dr. W. Ward Gasque

Dr. Gasque is President of Pacific Association for Theological Studies. He has graduate degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary (B.D., M.Th.) and Manchester University in England (Ph.D.). He has dedicated his life to making good theology available to all of God's people. A co-founder of Regent College in Vancouver, Canada, he has also been a visiting scholar at Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). He has written two books, edited four collections of essays and more than 20 commentaries; he has also published nearly 200 articles and many book reviews.  He is the New Testament editor of the multi-volume New International Biblical Commentary (Hendrickson), and has served as an editor-at-large of Christianity Today.


Dr. Elmer Joy

Dr. Joy is the Coordinator for Christian Formation and Congregational Development for the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Formerly, he served as Academic Dean (1975-77) and Chief Administrative Officer (1989-95) at Regent College, where he also taught Old Testament, Hermeneutics, Biblical Greek and Hebrew. He holds degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (MA) and McGill University (PhD).  He is the editor of The Act of Bible Reading (IVP).


David Marshall

David Marshall ministers in the Northwest after a period of teaching at Siebold University in Japan to start Kuai Mu Institute. He is author of Jesus and the Religions of Man (2000) and True Son of Heaven: How Jesus Fulfills the Chinese Culture (1996), and has also written articles for Books and Culture, First Things, Touchstone, and other journals. He worked as a missionary and educator in Asia for 13 years, and has spoken to numerous audiences around the Pacific Rim.


Christian & Kathy Overman

Christian and Kathy Overman are the developers of "Think Again!" workshops and co-founders of Worldview Matters, Inc. Christian holds a M. Ed. degree from Seattle Pacific University, where he is part of the adjunct faculty in the Continuing Education program, and is currently working toward a D. Min. degree from Bakke Graduate University. Christian served as a teacher, Principal, then Superintendent of North Seattle Christian School over a period of seventeen years, and is the author of Different Windows (Tyndale House, 1989), Assumptions That Affect Our Lives (1996), and Making the Connections: How to Put Biblical Worldview Integration into Practice (2000). The Overmans are parents of four adult children, and grandparents of eight. They reside in Bellevue, Washington, where they attend Westminster Chapel, a Christ-centered, interdenominational church.


Rev. Dr. Earl F. Palmer

Rev. Dr. Palmer  is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and Princeton Theological Seminary. He is senior pastor of University Presbyterian Church of Seattle. He is the author of a number of commentaries, including The Book that John Wrote (1978; 1999), and regularly teaches in seminaries, colleges and churches. He is generally regarded as one of the best preachers in America today, and his sermons are circulated on audio to people around the globe.


Rosie Perera

Rosie worked for 11 years as a software engineer at Microsoft, where she was one of the lead developers of Microsoft Word and Money.  She received a Masters in Christian Studies at Regent College (Vancouver, B.C.).  Her research interests include the spiritual implications of information technology.


Dr. B. J. Prashantham

Dr. Prashantham presently serves as a counselor, professor for Fuller Seminary, and as a consultant to Microsoft's international operations. Born and educated in India, he has graduate degrees from Trinity International University (MA) and Trinity Lutheran Seminary of Ohio (MA, DMin). As a Christian who grew up in a country dominated by Hinduism and where Christians are vastly outnumbered by Muslims and Sikhs as well as by Hindus, he is ideally positioned to speak on the topic of the church around the world.


Dr. Pamela J. Scalise

 

Dr. Scalise is associate professor of Old Testament at Fuller Theological Seminary. She has graduate degrees from Bethel Theological Seminary (MA) and Yale University (MA, MPhil, PhD) and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She has published a jointly authored commentary on Jeremiah (Word Biblical Commentary) and a number of scholarly articles. She is celebrated as a teacher who is able to instill a warm love for the Old Testament in her students.


John Schwarz

 

John Schwarz is the author of the bestselling The Compact Guide to the Christian Faith (Bethany House Pub), which has been translated into several languages and circulated around the world. It is the first of a series of 10 books that participants in the KOINOS 101 series are given. Schwarz is a retired business executive with graduate degrees in business, law and theology. His vision is that every lay man or woman be firmly grounded in the Scriptures.


Dr. Tom and Dr. Christine Sine

Dr. Christine and Dr. Tom Sine are the co-founders of Mustard Seed Associates. They work together to assist denominations and Christian organizations in evaluating how their world, nation and communities are changing so they can adapt more adequately to the challenges of the 21st Century. Tom Sine is a consultant in futures research and planning for both Christian and secular organizations. He has authored many books, including Mustard seed vs McWorld: Reinventing Life and Faith for the Future. Christine is an Australian physician who developed and directed the healthcare ministry for YWAM’s Mercy Ships. She has a broad background in international health and travel medicine and has worked in Africa , Asia , Central America , the Caribbean and the South Pacific. Her most recent book is Sacred Rhythms: Finding a Peaceful Pace in a Hectic World. Tom and Christine co-authored Living on Purpose: Finding God’s Best for Your Life in 2002.  

Both Tom and Christine are adjunct professors for Fuller Theological Seminary in Seattle. Tom, holding a Ph.D. in American History & with secondary emphasis on futures study from the University of Washington , teaches a course on Christian World View.
